BIRDING HALMAHERA INDONESIA

Halmahera is one of the most interesting birding destinations in Indonesia.

Weda Resort provides excellent birdwatching, in great comfort. From the terrace of your cottage you can enjoy the sight of hornbills, eagles, cockatoos, parrots, fruit doves and many other winged visitors.

After we discovered a lek of the Wallace’s Standardwing Bird of Paradise (Semioptera wallacii) which is only found in Halmahera, we became very anxious about how to protect it against logging. We succeeded in buying the lek spot and the surrounding forest. In this 175 Hectares of primary forest we have so far spotted 24 of the 28 endemic bird species. A very nice surprise were the Nicobar Pigeon living here too.

Our experienced English speaking guide will be happy to help you finding your favourites.
